One of Life's Mysteries

Quite why I am going to be wasting my evening going to watch the England game at my local pub, is anyone's guess.

Tradition, partly. I never miss an England game, even one as pointless as a friendly.

But part of the idea, surely, is a sneaking suspicion that England might win.

At the moment, were it a friendly against Malta, I'd have my doubts.

So I'm off to watch England play the kind of football traditionally associated with West Bromwich Albion, against a football superpower.

Why we still linger with these Steve McLaren woes, escapes me. By doing a total U-turn on Beckham having a role to play in the team, he has lost all credibility. He's also got to pull something out of the bag fast if we are to qualify for the Euros.
I don't see him doing that.

It is sad really, when you look back to the England Team of 2002.

I don't care what anyone says.
For twenty minutes, I was reading a screen that read; ENG 1 BRA 0
Dreams of Beckham raising the Jules Rimet trophy filled my head.

What went wrong?

yeah, I know I gte all excited about grown men chasing a football around for 90 minutes with maybe one of them getting a whole point for their efforts.
England NEVER wins- if thye had any dignity, they would have thrown in the towel long ago!

Miss Uber.

THREE points for a win, one for a DRAW.

But this just a friendly.

I think a lot of us remember that 1 0 score line and the brief hope it afforded. I thought I would be really clever and drive to work and listen to it on the radio as watching it would be too stressful. Owen scored as I left home...the equaliser came as I was driving through a village with "traffic calming" curbs punctuating the road... As Brasil scored I hit a curb, bent the sub frame and the hubcap was never recovered (?). The rest of the game was passed disconsolately waiting for AA.

A better performance than I expected, though.

Though our defence still looks poor.

Lilith, that's a sad story. Such a historical game and you spent waiting for the AA.

Bag- Bring back the fantasy.

Poody- You have to love your team, whoever they are. It is part of what makes us human.

JJ- Not even quite sure HOW that equaliser happened. But I suppose it was written in the stars.
