Nineeteenth Crushed Sunday Memusetica
Brought to you in conjunction with Judd Corizan's Non Biological Detergent and Stubborn Stain Remover.
1. Did you date someone from your school? Actually, I didn't. Not in the sense I ever went on any dates with anyone from school.
2. Did you marry someone from your high school? No.
3. Did you car pool to school? I don't know what that means, but probably, no.
4. What kind of car did you have? At school? You can tell you're American! No one owns a car whilst still at school. Or even as Uni student. Cars cost money, students have none.
Actually, that's quite a good point. How DO all these US school kids own cars? Where does a school kid get that sort of money? I worked twenty hours a week whilst in high school and I would NEVER have had THAT sort of money.
5. What kind of car do you have now? I'd love to say a Jag- Jaguar for non Brits. But I'd be lieing. Is it OK if I just say if I had a choice, it would be a Jaguar? Just so you know I have impeccable taste.
6. Its Friday night...where are you now? A pub. Or a club. Or a party.
7. It is Friday night...where were you then? A pub. Or a club. Or a party.
8. What kind of job did you have in high school? I worked in a hotel.
9. What kind of job do you do now? I sell stuff.
10. Were you a party animal? When I wasn't at work.
11. Were you considered a flirt? Not so much then. Those were embryonic years.
12. Were you in band, orchestra, or choir? No.
13. Were you a nerd? No.
14. Did you get suspended from school? No.
15. Can you sing the fight song? What? Is this another American thing?
16. Who was/were your favorite teacher? Mr Servini, my History teacher and Lenin lookalike, and Mr Thorpe, English teacher and Michael Douglas in Falling Down lookalike.
17. Where did you sit during lunch? I actually used to eat my lunch in lessons. The reason for this was I had Prefect duty at lunchtime. Not every lunch, but in a school that size it helps to arrange things with your mates so you help them with theirs, they help you with yours. Because though being a Prefect may sound glamourous, it actually involves considerable use of brute force.
18. What was your school's full name? ********* High School and Sixth Form College.
19. Where did you party the most? In the staff hostel behind the hotel I worked it. I got through several of the Polish waitresses.
20. What was your school mascot? Me.
21. Would you do it again? I'd look a bit out of place. No. Of course I wouldn't. It sucked.
22. Did you have fun at Prom? May Ball. Not Prom, May Ball. Well, I got pissed. And I had sex in the toilets. What more can you ask for?
23. Do you still talk to the person you went to Prom with? Our May Balls are NOT the decorous occasions US Proms are. Yes, we wear Tuxedos, girls wear dresses. But the blokes all turn up half pissed in a mini bus long after the girls got there.
24. Are you planning on going to your next reunion? If they had them, possibly. They don't. I should know. I'm stupid enough to live right next to the place.
25. Do you still talk to people from school? When I see them in the pub, yes.
26. What are/were your school's colors? Believe it or not, Black, Red and White. So they either loved this blog long before it ever came into existence, or they were Nazis. Take your pick.
School.
I suppose we have to go through it. Not because we learn anything, I'm pretty sure I didn't. But it teaches you how to interact with people on a mass scale. It teaches you how to stand your ground, it teaches you how to pretend to be working, it teaches you how to play systems, it teaches you how to play politics, it teaches you how to get women to part from their underwear and it teaches you how to bond with people who have no other reason to bond with you other than that they like you.
Do I look back and think they were fun times? Do I fuck. But do I think it's good for kids. Yes. It gives them an idea of the crap they'll have to deal with in life.
And that, frankly, is what school is for.

I loved your answers--especially the one about owning a car. I don't think the average US teen owns a car, but it will be interesting to see the answers that others give, won't it?
Hard on the Americans today????
How do students own cars? Two ways: rich parents, or really cheap old used cars. Three guesses as to which category I fell in?
School doesn't prepare you for much. On Americans: Car pools mean that you commute with others either to school or work. Fight songs are sung at sporting events. Well, that's the theory. I never knew the words.
Sex by a toilet sounds a tad odd. Must be a good story...
High school is difficult in the best of circumstances. Too many hormonal children running around.
Fight songs...all the same tune...the words are changed to fit each school individually. Funny how that is.
Nurse Exec- They seem to on the TV we see from the US. I don't know. I think US teens go through rites of passage in a different order to what we do.
You drive before you drink, we generally drink before we drive.
Paula- Not really. Just some of the questions seemed very much aimed at US school life.
Joe- I think petrol has always cost a lot here. And car insurance. Kind of makes it hard to run a car unless you're earning a reasonable wage.
Bud- I think school sporting events are probably more important to schools than they are here. You watch your school teams play. We don't.
It was sex IN a toilet. Not the first time, and certainly not the last.
Sweet Cheeks- Much like God Save the queen is also God save the Tsar, and is also God Bless America :)
and also God Save Liechtenstein and in fact, the anthem of most former German principalities.
